VILLAGE DIKWAL

DIKWAL is a village in Malvan Taluka District Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, India.  It is surrounded by hills on three sides and about 10 kilometers (6.2mi) from the Arabian Sea. Nearest Railway Station is Sindhudurg. Situated on the rout of Konkan Railway. This station area is also known as 'Oras'.  Oras is the city near Sindhudurga Station.

Dikwal is owned by Gawade Family ('Gaonkar' - Owner of the village i.e. Landlord). Gawade family settled here from the village of Chowke, as forefather says and prior to that had come from Gauda district which is in Karnataka many years before independence.

Some of the species were in Pakistan for service. Few of them return India after partition of India and settelled in Maharashtra in different villages. Gawade can be found in whole India. Many Gawade Family has changed their name as they like. Most have changed there names by local village name. These all Gawade are 96 Kuli Maratha of Kashyap (Dhampal) Gotra. Family God is Jyotiba. This temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. This is also called Kedarnath and Wadi Ratnagiri. Mythology says, Jotiba helped Mahalaxmi in her fight with the demons. He founded his kingdom on this mountain. He belongs to the Nath cult. He was born in the hands of Vimalmbuja, the wife of the sage Pougand, on Chaitra Shukla 6. It is situated to the north of Kolhapur in the deep, surrounded by green mountains and black precipices. The original temple was build in 1730 by Navajisaya. It is 330′ high from sea-level. The interior is ancient and the idol is four-handed. There are other temples and Light-towers. On Chaitra Poornima a big fair is held, when lacs of devotees come with tall (Sasan) sticks. Due to scattering of ‘Gulal’ the whole mountain is turned pink. Sunday is sacred to Jotiba. In the last few years much improvement has been made by the people and on the government level. A new scheme Plaza Garden has been under taken.
Situated at a height of 3124 feet above sea level the Jyotiba Temple is dedicated to Jyotiba (Dattatreya), which was formed by the amalgamation of the jyotis (souls) of three god

Local Deity of village Dikwal: DEV GANGESHWAR

Family God of Gawade family is 'Jyotiba'. Villagers residing in this village are all farmers. They work full day in farm for daily needs. Rice is a primary crop.

Most of us are working in city like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi etc. Some are doing business. We visit native place in the month of May around. This is the month of hot summer when in India we have holiday for school students.

In the month of December we perform God worship Festival called 'Dahikalo' or 'Fair' or 'Jatra'. On this occassion all villagers come together to enjoy celebration. 'Dahikalo' is a Drama based on happenings in the life of god. Different storries performed in the front of Temple on Permanent Stage built for this purpose here in this village Dikwal.  Read more..........

SCHOOL OF DIKWAL


Education is also one of the reason to settle in city. Here in Dikwal nearest market is at Katta which is far away. Walking distance is about more than One and half hours. We have school at Dikwal up to 4th standard. After that for next study students walk towards katta. At katta they can study up to twelth standard.

With efforts and help of villagers we could able to build roads which helped to develope transport facility. Now student can go to school with Sate Transport Bus (MSRTC). People of the village also happy with the facility that they have got. Now Marketing is quite easy.  Read more..........
